From the Hack presents “Behind the Hack” with Cheryl Bernard, an exclusive series of interviews through which the 2010 Olympic silver medalist and TSN curling analyst takes you into the minds of elite curlers and coaches to discover how these top athletes develop the mental strength that allows them to outperform in high pressure game deciding moments.
In the premiere episode, Cheryl is joined by Dr. Penny Werthner, a 1976 Olympian and the current Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. Dr. Werthner is a noted sports psychologist who has worked with Canadian athletes at the national level since 1985, including several curlers.
In this interview Dr. Werthner and Cheryl discuss the importance of communications both on and off the ice, the importance of post-game de-briefs and how to approach team dynamics, specifically how to balance the needs of the team with the needs of individual team members. All this and much more on Episode 1 of Behind the Hack with Cheryl Bernard.
Next episode – 2014 Olympic gold medalist Brad Jacobs – August 22nd.
